Plasma Applications Overview


Plasmas are used today to quickly and precisely cut materials in preparation for their next operation, or in many cases - to be used with the as-cut finish supplied from the machine.


Applications in metal


With good nesting, material yields can rise to new levels. Through the use of shared line cutting, where two parts are created with a common line between them, the cutting time can be dramatically reduced.

Portions of a part being cut can be cut very precisely, allowing little or no subsequent finishing required on that surface. These precise edges are not shared line cuts, but cut individually to reduce the amount of taper left by the cutting stream.

Through use of garnet abrasive fed into the high pressure cutting stream, material is worn away in a repeatable manner. This abrasion can cut through the toughest of materials such as carbides and tool steels.
